Oh Nancy, you're the best!

We picked up the DVD box set of the Nancy Drew Mysteries television show at the Austin Public library the other day. I was a big fan of the books and wondered how they would translate to the small screen. The episodes were pretty terrible. Each story begins with Nancy curious about a mystery, other people doubt her or think it's too dangerous, then she's runs a reckless investigation, and in the end, everyone tells her how wonderful she is.

The best part about the show is Pamela Sue Martin's style - 1970s with a classic twist. Her feathered hair and outfits are so cute on her tiny frame. Being a an amateur detective, she needs many trench coats and tweeds. Her boyish sidekick, George, dons the more trendy outfits, including gaucho pants in one episode - I hate those.

I recommend viewing just for the fashion. And Mark Harmon makes a guest appearance as a troubled college football player in one episode. Here's a quick clip from "The Secret of the Whispering Walls":
